Overview
Where there are people, there are laws. And where there are laws, there is crime.
Crimes, and How to Do Them
- Fighting of any kind in the Great Hall (See Safety note)
- Murder (Killing a viking who doesn’t fight back)
- Arson (Damaging the Anchor NPC’s property)
- Theft (see below)
PVP Thievery Agreement
PVP requires elevated levels of emotional maturity from players who wish to participate in it. And no form of PVP requires more conscientiousness than taking things that belong to others. If you choose to engage in thievery that targets player characters via Pickpocket, Lockpicking, etc. you agree to the following:
I agree to exercise my thievery responsibly, to negotiate with other players to establish their level of consent, ideally before game if possible and to always respect their boundaries. I will not steal items from players if it would cause them emotional distress, and if I make a mistake I will apologize and return the item. I will not steal personal items or mishandle physreps which do not belong to me.
Violation of the PVP Thievery Agreement will result in your PVP privileges being revoked, and depending on the severity you may be banned from the game. If you are not sure: ASK!
To Steal a Tagged Item:
You must have the Pickpocket Ability and acquire black clothespin(s) from Logistics.
Affix one of the provided black clothespins to target tagged item’s tag. The thief must then log the theft (there will be a special clipboard with a coversheet for this). When the owner notices the item has been stolen, they remove the tag with the clothespin still attached, and place them in the Item Recycling Station.
The thief may then retrieve the item and their clothespin from the Item Recycling Station.
Valid Theft Targets
- All tagged items, unless otherwise specified
- Untagged (starter) weapons and shields, use the safety tag
- Armor (But see note below)
- Silver
- Carded items, unless otherwise specified
Invalid Theft Targets
Unless you have the explicit prior permission by the owner, you may not steal:
- Attached limbs or prosthesis
- OOG personal items of any sort
- Items currently being held or carried
- Armor currently being worn
In-Game Consequences
If a Viking is caught doing crimes, they may be dragged before the Anchor NPC to face justice.
If a Viking is caught doing crimes in the Great Hall it is considered a special breach of the The Great Hall . The violation must be verified by the Anchor NPC, even if they are caught red-handed.
Similarly, stealing from the Anchor NPC is a Bad Idea. Tread carefully!
