QR Codes (Glyphs)

QR codes with the Project: Valhalla symbol in the center are considered in character information. You will find them on tagged items, and other glyphs may contain lore entries, equipment instructions, etc. You are encouraged to scan glyphs using your smartphone (IC: your “data tablet” or “data pad”) to find out what they mean. If you do not have a device that can scan QR codes, ask a fellow player or Staff for assistance.

Tagged Items and Carded Items

A tagged item is a real-world object with a glyph (QR code) physically attached to it in some way. Players can freely scan the glyph with their smartphone or other devices to get information about the item.

The properties of tagged items are obvious to any character who can scan the glyph and are not intended to be secret, unless otherwise specified.

Carded items are represented by physical cards with the item’s information on them. They typically do not require a physrep. An example of a carded item is a Meal.

You may request an item card for any tagged item you own, for your personal reference.

Do not write on or otherwise mark item tags, cards or blueprints unless a rule or mechanic invites you to do so, such as for Gene-locked items.

Specifications for weapon props can be found on the Combat page.

Gene-locked Items

Items with “Gene-locked” in the name are genetically linked to their owner, specified at the time the item is acquired or crafted, and cannot be used by anyone else. To specify such an item as Gene-locked to you, write your player ID on the item tag itself (preferably not obscuring the glyph).

Durability

Items with Durability lose 1 Durability at the beginning of an event. When an item loses Durability, mark off a square on the item’s card. Any item with 0 Durability at the end of an event is permanently destroyed.

Please note that only events actually attended by the player in possession of the item reduce Durability.

Item Type Durability
Most Equipment 3
Reusable Gizmos 3
Single-use Gizmos 2
Consumables 1
Military-Grade 2

Similarly, if an item has a limited number of Uses, mark each use off on the item’s card. An item with no Uses remaining is permanently destroyed.

Locks and Containers

The Lock Symbol

The Lock Symbol

Targeting a container with a Demolish Effect destroys the container and anything inside it. A container can contain any number of tagged or carded items that would reasonably fit inside it.

There are three kinds of locks in Valhalla: diagetic, exegetic and Player Crafted. All locks require use of the Lockpicking Ability to interact with.

An exegetic lock will have an envelope attached with a lock symbol on it, usually on the lock itself or on the door, container, etc it’s attached to. You may open the envelope and follow the instructions inside to attempt to pick the lock. If you have a key that corresponds to the ID on the envelope, you may lock and unlock it freely. (If you do so, do not open the attached envelope).

A diagetic lock is a padlock-shaped prop or puzzle with a lock symbol on it. You may attempt to pick the lock with the provided lockpick(s) only.

Do not use actual lock picks or attempt to brute-force combination locks. All IG locks will have the Valhalla logo on them; do not attempt to open locks without the logo!

Player Crafted locks will be tagged both with a glyph and the lock symbol. They may only be unlocked by using the Lockpicking Ability as indicated by the glyph.

Item Recycling Station

When crafting or another activity that requires paying a material cost, the instructions may say to “place the materials in the Item Recycling Station.” This is a specially marked container provided by Staff for the turn-in of spent resources located at Logistics. Items may never be removed from the Item Recycling Station. The Item Recycling Station cannot be targeted by Effects.

MSC Scanners

To identify the contents of a Material Storage Container (MSC), touch target object’s NFC tag to the MSC Scanner to initiate the scan. You may spend Silver to reduce the scan time to a minimum of 1 minute. Once the scan is complete, the device will give you a result which will identify its contents. Requires the MSC Scanner Proficiency Ability.

MSC Lockers

A special container for storing MSCs during a sortie, includes an attached Manifest. Once assigned, the Owner of the locker may not change. Only the owner may modify the contents of the Manifest.

May only store MSCs. No other objects, IC or OOC, may be placed inside.

Neither the locker nor its Manifest may be moved or targeted by Effects.

MSC Lockers can only be accessed by those listed on the Manifest.

Each Faction or Independent viking may only own one MSC Locker at a time.

Crafting

Vikings may use Abilities with the Craft cost (see: Effects, Costs & Delivery) to create items, meals, equipment, et cetera. This typically consumes Crafting Materials, which will be indicated by the Ability itself, or written on a corresponding Blueprint, Recipe or Formula.

Crafting is interrupted when the user receives any Effect other than a Support Effect. However, no materials, Will or Ability expenditures are lost and the timer may be restarted at any time before the end of the next Feast.
